Usually only when the damage came from a sudden covered event like hail or wind. Insurance generally does not pay to replace a roof that simply wore out. Your policy and your adjuster decide.
What is usually covered
- Hail damage to shingles, vents and flashing
- Wind damage, such as missing or creased shingles
- Damage from fallen trees and limbs
What is usually not covered
- Normal wear, age and granule loss over time
- Leaks caused by poor maintenance
- Damage that was not reported within your policy's deadline
How to give your claim the best chance
- Get a roof inspection with photos before you file.
- Check your policy for your deductible and filing deadline.
- File the claim and schedule the adjuster's visit.
- Have your roofer at the inspection to point out the damage.
You are responsible for your deductible. Be careful with any contractor who offers to waive or cover it.
