Architectural shingle roof

Cost How much does a roof replacement cost in Georgia?

It depends mostly on the size and steepness of your roof, how many layers have to come off, how much decking needs replacing, and the shingle line you choose. The only accurate number is a written quote after someone measures your roof.

What changes the price

  • Roof size. Roofs are priced by the square, which is 100 square feet of roof surface. Bigger roofs cost more.
  • Pitch and complexity. Steep roofs and roofs with many valleys, dormers and gables take longer and need more safety equipment.
  • Tear-off. Removing one layer of old shingles is standard. Two layers cost more to remove and dispose of.
  • Decking. Rotted boards under the shingles have to be replaced. Nobody knows exactly how many until the old roof is off, so a good quote states the price per sheet.
  • Materials. Architectural shingle lines, underlayment and ventilation upgrades all affect the total.

Why phone quotes are unreliable

A price given without measuring the roof is a guess. Ask for a written quote that lists the tear-off, materials, decking price per sheet, warranty and cleanup.

Will insurance pay for it?

If a covered storm damaged the roof, insurance may pay for most of the replacement minus your deductible. See does insurance cover roof replacement in Georgia.
